Turkey Thicket

Installation of Geothermal System

Installation of Geothermal System

Heavy equipment to include trucks with drilling rigs and backhoes have been active the past several months on the playing fields of Turkey Thicket. Since late 2013, several rigs have been drilling at the grounds, a gravel path had been laid parallel to Michigan Avenue, and a circular retaining berm was constructed. The goal of the activity is to install a buried system of pipes to support geothermal heating and cooling of the Brookland Middle School, also under construction.  Work at the park area will soon be completed and the playing fields returned to their original state in the Spring of 2014 (January 13, 2014 email from Jackie Stanley entitled Turkey Thicket Playground Update).

Construction of the new Brookland Middle School at Turkey Thicket continues. According to Jackie Stanley of the D.C. Department of General Services, the construction is scheduled for completion in December 2014 and the school would be ready for the 2015-2016 school year (March 6, 2014 email from Jackie Stanley entitled Brookland Community Meeting).
