The Bowser Administration Continues Annual Ward 8 Breast Cancer Walk this Saturday

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Bowser Administration and DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced its or warriors, survivors, and fighters will occur Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Barry Farm Recreation Center starting at 4 p.m.
“This year marks the return of the Ward 8 Breast Cancer Walk as a larger community activation and we are very excited, said DPR Director Delano Hunter. “I am forever proud of this Ward 8 tradition, and it is one of the few events we continued even through the pandemic as a smaller neighborhood walk to show the importance of breast cancer awareness in the District.”
Saturday, October 22nd, the Ward 8 Breast Cancer Walk sets an easy pace for an evening social walk for the entire family. The walk continues a long-standing tradition in honor of former DPR employee, Diane Bushrod, who died from breast cancer in 2006. Ms. Bushrod, worked at Barry Farm Recreation Center, was a Ward 8 resident, native Washingtonian and an athlete.
The 2.1-mile walk will begin at Barry Farm Recreation Center (1230 Sumner Road SE), cross the Frederick Douglass Bridge, and return to the recreation center. The event is free and open to the public. Wear pink!
