Pedestrian Trail Between Gallatin and Galloway

Please see the following letter sent on behalf of Rock Creek Park Superintendent Julia Washburn.

Dear Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie.

We hope this message finds you and yours well.  It has been awhile since we provided an update on the project to formalize the pedestrian trail between Gallatin and Galloway Streets, NE.

The project to construct a new paved trail between Gallatin and Galloway Streets NE has been fully designed and awarded. The awarded contactor is currently submitting pre-construction documents and other materials for approval.  A notice to proceed will be issued as soon as all those submittals have been received and approved.

The contractor is expected to mobilize no later than June 30, 2020.  During construction, the trail will be closed for public use and unofficial trails to the east will also be closed to allow for re-vegetation of the area. Current useres should expect to use DC sidewalks on Gallatin, Galloway, and South Dakota during construction.  The trail is expected to be completed and open for public use within 120 days of construction start.

We thank you in advance for ensuing this update is shared as weidely as possible with the 5A (most impacted community) and Ward 5 communities.  We are most appreicative of your support and interest. Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesistate to contact me or our Chief, Division of Maintenance, Don Kirk at donald_kirk@nps.gov or (202) 895-6017.

Sincerely,

Julia Washburn
Superintendent
