Temporary Lane Closures for I-295 Corridor Improvement Project from November 14 through 21, 2022

(WASHINGTON, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes, ramps and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along and near the I-295 / DC 295 corridor.
The following lane, ramp, and shoulder closures will be in place daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. from November 14 to 21, 2022, weather permitting. On days and nights during events at Nationals Park and/or Audi Field, NO lane closures from two hours before the start of the event to two hours after the end of the event.
South Capitol Street SE/SW single left or right lanes northbound and southbound between Firth Sterling Avenue SE and N Street SE, double lane closures will occur between 9.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. next morning. LCR 116, 118, 124, 143, 170, 224, 238, 247, 249, 251, 254, 270, 271, 290, 316.
Suitland Parkway SE single left or right lanes eastbound and westbound between Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE and South Capitol Street SE, weekend closures will start at 6.00 a.m. LCR 120, 166, 233 266, 267, 283, 285 (L OR R).
The following lane, ramp, and shoulder closures will be in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. from November 14 to 21, 2022, 2022 weather permitting.
Firth Sterling Avenue SE single left or right lane northbound/southbound between South Capitol Street SE and Howard Road SE. LCR 117, 165, 188, 263, 310 (L OR R)
Potomac Avenue SE/SW single lane closure between First Street SE and Second Street SW. LCR 125, 241, 246, 272 (L OR R).
Howard Road SE single left or right lane between Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE and South Capitol Street SE, weekend closures will start at 7.00 a.m. LCR 119, 162, 167, 245, 260.
Q Street SW single lane closures between Half Street SW and South Capitol Street S.
R Street SW single lane closures between Half Street SW and South Capitol Street SW, double lane closures will occur between 9.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. next morning.
Elizabeths Road SE southbound single lane closure south of Firth Sterling Avenue.
Half Street SW single left or right lane closure northbound/southbound between S Street SW and P Street SW.
Barry Road SE single lane closure (lanes narrowed) between Firth Sterling Avenue SE and Eaton Road SE.
Anacostia Drive single lane closure (flagged).
The following lane closures will be in place on I-295 northbound weekdays from November 14 to 21, 2022, 2022 weather permitting. On days and nights during events at Nationals Park and/or Audi Field, NO lane closures from two hours before the start of the event to two hours after the end of the event.
Single left or right lanes between the merge from Malcolm X Avenue / Dorothea Dix Avenue (Exit 2) and I-695 / DC 295 / MLK Jr Ave (Exits 5A-B-C) from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekend closures will start at 7.00 a.m. LCR 211
Up to two left or right lanes between the merge from Malcolm X Avenue / Dorothea Dix Avenue (Exit 2) and I-695 / DC 295 / MLK Jr Ave (Exits 5A-B-C) will be closed nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 211
The following lane closures will be in place on I-295 southbound weekdays from November 14 to 21, 2022, 2022 weather permitting. On days and nights during events at Nationals Park and/or Audi Field, NO lane closures from two hours before the start of the event to two hours after the end of the event.
Single left or right lanes between I-695 (Exits 1B-C) and South Capitol Street / JBAB (Exit 2B) from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weekend closures will start at 7.00 a.m. LCR 212
Up to two left or right lanes between I-695 (Exits 1B-C) and South Capitol Street / JBAB (Exit 2B) will be closed nightly from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 212
The following ramp closures will be in place as described below, weather permitting. On days and nights during events at Nationals Park and/or Audi Field, NO lane closures from two hours before the start of the event to two hours after the end of the event.
I-295 southbound off-ramp to Suitland Parkway (Exit 4), ramp narrows/single lane closures during daytime hours between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and overnight between 9:00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 244, 144, 248, 256, 261, 275
I-295 southbound off-ramp to South Capitol Street (Exit 4), ramp narrows during daytime hours between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and overnight between 9:00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 244, 144, 248, 256, 261, 275
I-295 southbound on-ramp from Suitland Parkway, ramp narrows weekdays during daytime hours between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and overnight between 9:00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 308
I-295 northbound off-ramp to Suitland Parkway (Exit 4), ramp narrows weekdays during daytime hours between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and overnight between 9:00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 261, 266, 267, 274
I-295 northbound on-ramp from Suitland Parkway, ramp narrows weekdays during daytime hours between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and overnight between 9:00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. the following morning. LCR 291, 296.
These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT project:
South Capitol Street Corridor Project – Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge
The South Capitol Street Corridor Project calls for replacing the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and transforming related sections of the urban freeway into a beautiful scenic boulevard that increases pedestrian and vehicular safety, improves multimodal transportation options, increases community accessibility, and supports economic development on both sides of the Anacostia River.
Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
